Hello,

With mixed emotions I have just taken over the restoration of my Daughters mini, it's a1991 mini cooper.

I wish she was still with us, but it was not to be.

It's about 33 years since I built a mini, even longer since I built one of my mini rally cars, so I hope there are a few experts around who can jog my memory, or perhaps laugh at me for not knowing the modern way! The darned thing is fuel injected for goodness sake! When did that happen..

It's going to be a long haul but it will end up back on the road.

Graham

Welcome to TMF Graham, you've come to the right place for information and a good laugh along the way, there is a Projects section which a lot of us have long standing threads with plenty or large pictures of the usual rust spots and certain parts which should bring your memory back up to speed ;).

Thanks a lot for your replies!

You've made my day, A bit emotional for  a forum post. But under the circumstances I make no apologies.

If I can just remember what I once knew, I'm sure I can help too, the last car I built had a works bottom end with cross drilled crank, thin flange block with tappet access at the back. It was a works engine, less  the head. I remember pinching the cast rockers off a 1275 GT and the head from an Austin 1300GT in a scrappers, then spending hours polishing to match the ports to a 45 DCOE. Then finding I had to wreck my bulkhead to fit the long swan neck manifold. Not as bad as the 48 IDE though, that stuck up through the bonnet!

I'll post a few pictures if anyone is interested.

Halcyon days!

Hi Graham,

Welcome to the Forum.

It sounds as though you are doing the restoration for very sad and personal reasons, if so our commiserations are with you and we'll help you to make a really good job of it if we can, one you can be very proud of.

Personally I would love to see the photos of your last Mini rally car project, as that it where my main interest lies.

So massively sorry for your loss Graham, but her Mini will be an amazing reminder of her. I wish you all the best with the build - these lot are a right old knowledgeable bunch (im excluding myself from this statement, as what you said above, regarding your last build, means nothing to me haha).

Keep us updates, and im also a +1 for wanting to see pics. All the best.

Welcome to the forum. So sorry to hear about your daughter. Finishing the car is a great way to honour her memory and I hope it brings you some solace.

Welcome to the forum Graham!

There is a project thread section, where you can document your progress and restoration story, also a great place for tips advice etc.

Looking forward to see more of this project.

So,

Tomorrow the rolling chassis arrives, I've just finished putting the interior into storage in a corner of my garage.

It's going to take quite a while!
