So, this is actually my 5th mini in 22 years of driving.

For a good while now I've wanted an estate. Wasn't actually thinking of the clubman, more a roundnose...

The last mini I had was a 89 city, heavily modded and easily took the attention away from a Ferrari parked next to it.

Anyway, I owned it since '99 but sadly life got in the way and overthe last five years it rotted heavily in the back garden. I hung onto it because of all the goodies it held but the shell just got worse and worse. As did my passion for mini's...

Many people called in over the last few years (mostly dreamers) but I couldn't seem to let it go. However the last guy that came...we were chatting about minis and what he has. Amongst a number of minis, including 6-wheeled moke, he says, 'oh and I've also got this clubman estate...'

Something happened when he said that. :w00t:

I went to see it and it looked ok for the most part. This was how it stood...

However I couldn't really get a look at the floor. But that still didn't stop us trying to work out a deal... Then on like the 22nd Dec he calls me saying he wants to do a straight swap before xmas. So, on Christmas eve this turns up on my doorstep...

She's a 1ltr auto. I got her running but it seems it's only running on three cylinders or something...

I've loads of ideas flying around the head. It will get modified, subtly this time, but I'm hoping to do anything that is reversible. First thing thought is to tackle the floor and those beautiful invention called over sills!!!

Wish me all the mini luck in the world!

Cheers

Adam

I like it Adam

There is SO much you can do with a Clubbie estate. Are you keeping the auto or converting to manual?

Great project! Nice little Xmas pressie for yourself too ;D

Your previous mini looked good too.

I'm not a fan of body kits, but zee max kit doesn't look too bad.

Enjoy the restoration of the estate :D

Hi Adam, looks like a good project, I must say I feel the same way about clubby estates :)

There was a guys on here I saw a few days ago were he'd put a woody/ traveller wood on the car with surfboard and roof rack Ha-ha, looked great to me so might be an idea.

Following, keep us updated with progress and stick few photos up if you can :)

Thanks folks.

Yes, I blame the missus for my slight adversion to the clubman front. She don't like them. But I can't deny that I've seen many a clubman I love the look of. Like I said, I was gonna convert the front to a round nose but the little fecker is growing on me. Who knows where we'll go with it yet.

I like it Adam

I've never had the auto before so I'm gonna give the motor a good service and run around in it as is for now. Think I'll enjoy not having to change gear in traffic cue's...

However, I am thinking of a differnet engine with the estate. Don't get me wrong, I love the A-series but it's not cost effective to build an A-series with the power/comfort when I could go vauxhall/honda/susuki and have more reliabiltiy and comfort from a fifth gear. If you get what I'm saying...

But for now, I'm really gonna concentrate on getting the shell properly sorted. I never did it with my last mini and as beautiful as it looked I learnt the hard way if you don't sort the metal work out properly - every inch of it - it'll come back and bite you in the ass. MUCH quicker than you think. And, last time, someone else did it. I f I do it, my standards are much higher so it has to be right.

Here begins the bodywork restoration education!

Cheers

Adam

Probably a dumb question and please excuse my ignorance: But why is it a mk2 clubman estate? I thought there was only ever one clubman estate model?

No, not touched it. did notice the different lead though.

Can anyone tell me - should I take each spark plug out in turn and see if it's sparking? like off the head or something? OR should I start with checkign the inside of the dizzy?

I learnt it from the clubman estate register site. There's three types, apparently. Mk1, Mk2 and the HL (High Line). All basically the  same car but with subtle differences. I think I'll take that out of the title though...

It looks like the no 4 cylinder lead should be the king lead and the king lead should be were the 4 is. Yes check there all sparking plug gaps and condition of them all. Would be a start.
