Hi All,

Bit of a long shot, but has anyone had any experience of importing a mini to New Zealand? My wife and I are going to be moving from the UK to NZ later this year and currently looking into whether this is viable given the strict import rules imposed on vehicles.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

James

I don't have first-hand experience with importing a mini to NZ, but I'm aware of a scheme called Special Interest Vehicles which might allow you to import a classic mini without having to meet crash safety standards, emissions standards etc. And it is definitely possible to import minis, because dealers have been bringing them in from Japan recently. Whether or not they use the Special Interest Vehicle scheme I'm not sure though. You can find out more about that here: http://www.nzta.govt...t-vehicles.html

Another thing, I believe the regulations become more relaxed if you've owned the car in the UK for more than a year, it would be worth looking in to this on the NZTA (New Zealand Transport Association) website.

Also I just noticed you're in Portsmouth at the moment. Funny that, because I moved from Portsmouth to New Zealand with my family in 2004!

Thanks for the response. Some handy info and links there which I will take a look at.

Been doing quite a lot of research and have made some contacts over in NZ who are helping out. Currently trying to track down a statement of compliance from Rover which will be required, and if i cant get one we cant take the mini so that is the first step!

Its frustrating that it seems so strict, it would be a real shame to have to sell our mini as we have owned it for over 6 years!

If we have to then first thing I do when we arrive is to seek one out!
