And fitted. Needed to use a mallet to get it on, but it does look pretty cool. Thanks Dion :)

So long time no update. A while back I gave the twin carb bodies for ultrasonic cleaning and they have come back very clean.

I also gave the linkages and other metallic components for plating and now they are nice and shiny :)

Now to assemble with the rebuild kit and sandblast the heat shield and air filter box.

So it turns out I have no idea how to centre the jets, even with the excellent advice from a friend and multiple (>15) attempts, I failed to centre the jets. Furthermore, I've also apparently have no idea how to spray paint. I sandblasted the heat shield and air filter housing and when I spray painted the surface, it looked absolutely horrendous. Anyway, I shall try again. So first week back from a holiday, carbs still in pieces and metal parts look horrid :\

(P.S. I know that it isn't really build related to describe one's failures, but this is more of a diary of build related activities (or lack thereof), so I figured it was acceptable :P )

In the end I took the carbs to my friend and in the space of a couple of minutes both the jets were centred. Sometimes it helps to ask the experts for assistance :)

In other news, it is most likely that the needles in the carbs are incorrect. Which would mean I need to get the correct ones and that apparently means that the jets would need to be centred again. Yay, that's going to be fun :\

So now for some pictures (since everyone likes pictures :P

Firstly the sandblasted parts:

And then after a sanding down following the rubbish painting work that I did:

And lastly (for now, until I buy some fine sandpaper,) after the first fresh coat:

Now for some pictures of the carb rebuild. Shiny, new things always look good smile.png

And finally assembled :D :D

Got some fine sandpaper and finished spraying and putting the carbs together. Properly chuffed with the result.

A good friend of mine fitted a non-standard steering wheel to his mini with a drop bracket to lower the steering column and he also shifted the seat further back. When I sat in the car today, the driving position felt completely different and I'm really keen to try and do that to my mini too. I must admit I'm keen to get a cooler steering wheel too and I was wondering if there was a steering wheel thread on the forum somewhere.

Thanks to my friend Dom for helping me out by shipping a bunch of my parts with his parts from minispares. It's basically everything I'd need to sort out the cylinder head, the last few bits for the carbs and the replacement parts for the disc brakes. It is probably going to be a little while before I can get the cylinder head and brake booster sorted out though. Mainly due to funds (or a lack thereof) and also due to a lack of time :\

Anyway, hopefully I can start taking apart the brakes too and servicing them while I wait.

Sorry for the lack of a proper update.

Now I've got everything necessary to put the carbs together properly. Correct needles, air box rubber seals, air filters, throttle springs, wing nuts and fibre washers :)
