I've had my 1987 Mini advantage project for a while now and looking to get a full body respray, but needs the full works, stripping down, rust treating, priming then painting. Looking to keep it the original colour white with maybe a green roof to match the seat trim. I've had £600 worth of welding done so hopefully wouldn't need anymore! Just wondering what sort of price people think it would cost for the work? And if anybody knows if a good paint and body shop in Birmingham?
Cheers, Luke

This question gets asked so many times. Now you do get what you pay for and i have seen figures range from a couple of hundred to £6K +.
Whats your budget

Whats your budget? Take it and double it and add a bit more. Then you will be able to work out how much it will cost

To give you an idea of cost, i had an online quote of approx £1800. This was for a full inside and outside respray. All new panels fitted by me and NO rust. At the other end i had another quote of £6k and then there was VAT to add to that. Doing it myself now.

I supplied my car stripped down i.e. no glass, no rubbers, locks etc and all the welding work was done. That set me back £1200 for retained colour (red with white roof) and didn't include the inside as it wasn't required. I also had to pay £40 each way to have someone transport it for me.
If you want to keep the cost down you really need to do as much prep as possible yourself. Strip the glass out, take the locks off and do the rebuild yourself. Always factor in hidden costs for your rebuild. I ended up replacing all the window channels and rubbers in both front doors which cost about £70. Also bear in mind that on a new shiny paint job all the old stuff will look awful. I think I have just about replaced everything now including the bumpers, headlight bowls, wheels!

As above regarding the strip down to save costings...
We have a local mini friendly garage in Nottingham which isn't too far away who does excellent paint work and Minis are pretty much all he works on..
Daps at Surf Blue Garage is your man...
He's on facebook and easily found.

This is the sort of state it's in at the minute, just got a bit of primer where the panels have been replaced.

I don't know the correct name but the plastic abbrasive wheels are really good and stripping back to bare metal without destorying the metal. Cost about £5.

I don't think you'd get any change out of £1500 to respray that down here but it could be up to £2K depending on how straight that quarter is.
