The treble in my mini is rubbish so I'd like to improve it. I have some tweeters I pulled out of my old Punto which were part of a reasonable system. Will I need to add a crossover circuit to have them work properly? If so, what is recommended bearing in mind I'm not going for super show-stopping standards? Or maybe some tweeters with built in crossovers might be a better move?

You'll definitely want a crossover, just had a look on eBay and there's an old set of Rockford Fosgates on there, they'll be better than some cheap chinese stuff or built in crossovers.

I had a look for the Rockford Fosgates on ebay, they seem to be only in the USA and knocking on £40.  I don't know if these are any good: http://www.caraudiod...ssive-crossover  but they're a better price and there's no chance of import tax.

Tweeters are normal 3/4" or 1", speaker the size of air vents are 3.5" or 4"...

if you have tweeter that big they are not tweeters unless there are on a large face plate. like these (top speakers) http://i.imgur.com/qGW7Q.jpg

I'm obviously not up to speed on acoustics these days, in my day tweeters were anything smaller than 5 inches or so.  What can you recommend for fitting in the eye-ball vents Ruckus?  I just want a bit more top end to cut through the rattles and buzzes the car makes, I won't be entering any sound-offs :-)
