Guys,

Well here is the state of my Mayfair after what was meant to be a full re-sill - enjoy its laughable.

As you can see its an absolute bodge, waste of 9 weeks of my time let alone the heritage panels and if I had know it was going to turn out like this I would of done it myself.

Who really still thinks that you can panel over rust with a new panel. It wasn't like it was even subtle, (and unfortunately I don't have the pictures of the outer sill) but the panel alignment was shocking. I wouldn't even be able to get the seam covers over the joint, and looking up the drain channels you could just see the old rust lying there waiting to rust out the new panels.

The only positive about this is that it is actually getting done properly now.

Oh well onwards and upwards enjoy the photos and have a laugh.

Also If any of you know of a good inner sill I would appreciate it.

The thing is you need to see how far into the floor the rust has gone. The thread i posted i had to use the M machine inner sill to first flute to get rid of all of the rust.

Get them direct from M Machine, let Doreen know you are a TMF+ member and you will get 10% discount. I'm still pondering whether to change the inner sills on my clubby. If i do that wont be joggled but butt welded in place.

Looks like you had 64 year old Clive on that , the chap with a permenant roll up stuck in the corner of his mouth , who still mentally thinks its 1973 . He did that quick then went home for a vesta curry , then 10 pints of mild down the pub .

Thankfully the floor is newish (done by a different company thankfully), and apart from a ten pence hole at the very front is okay.

It just needs to be matched up, which (touch wood) should not be to bad.

Thanks for the tips though. I'll give them a call tomorrow and get a panel ordered up.

Sounds about right. :(  The only thing is, he did take 9 weeks to put it in that state which really makes me question it.

Disgusting that people actually think thats acceptable - i bet it never even crossed there mind it was a bodge - it does show that its most likely somebody who still thinks along the lines of ' it'll last a year or two and get it through its MOT ' - Its not the good old days when minis grow on trees !

Bodge wise you only have to look at the so called repairs done by a bodyshop on my Clubman. Blind pew could have done better. Utter utter garbage.

No wonder the old lady who had the car at the time did not want it back.

Makes me glad I do my own body panels now. I dont want some cowboy doing that to mine. My welds may not be that pretty but they arent hiding a multitude of sins!

I had a similar story of a friend who had the scuttle corners replaced on his Mini but instead of the (reputable Mini specialist) cutting out the old corners they bashed them in towards the flitch with a hammer and welded the new ones on top! You could see the old corners from underneath!

Sounds like these sills, you could see it clear as day, all he had done ground off the old flutes.

I wish I had done it myself, the only reason I didn't was because he offered it at a reasonable price and said he would get it done in two weeks, and with being away with work sounded perfect. Alas it was 9 weeks before I got it back and now i've got to sort it all again.

Moral of the story ... do it yourself.
