Looking at getting my oversills replaced in the summer, but looking at this is a bit concerning! I don't want to spend hundreds getting them replaced only for the garage to leave all the rusty crap inside.

Tell them what you want and ask to see the various stages, either by photos or by popping in to see it

always get a mini friendly (or at least a classic car friendly) garage or specilist to do that sort of welding! I have a welder who specialises in classic cars, mainly works with minis and owns a few minis as well. i have never questioned his work!

but i have found numerous bodges from the previous owners!

Can I ask who done the work

I don't remember his surname, but he used to run the Barking Tye Garage in suffolk.

I used to always take my cars there to get them MOT'd and he knew everything about them and used to do the same for several other classics.

Then when I got the Mayfair it need the sills so thought where better to go (needed it done quickly, no time to do it myself) and that was the result.

To be fair to him after I complained I got my money back, so my only expense is the panels - although that's still £150.

Safe to say I won't be going back.Thankfully it's getting sorted properly now by someone I know, and in future i'll do it myself.

Do what Ben And Finch said, go to someone who understands their needs, if you ask them in advance how they plan to tackle it then you will get a rough idea on the knowledge and who to trust. Remember they need to brace the doors.

Personally I just think I was unlucky, and I'm sure you'll be fine. Get those oversills removed sooner rather than later!!!

dont be too scared to buy a welder and do it yourself. i always used to pay for my welding, but as soon as you have to do major work, it gets very expensive. I (well my wofe told me) decided to take on all the welding in my unexpected restoration. never done anything like it, and so far i have replaced both a-panels, welded fltich repair panels in both sides, new wing, boot repair sections, and about to fit the rear valance, arch and rear quarter. you can save a fair amount if you are not in a rush to get the car back on the road!
