Sorry to hear about your mini, the problem is when and if they do catch these people the sentences don't deter them from carrying on again. I had a car I loved stolen back in 90's and they don't realise or care about the effect this has on the owners.

All that (illegal) work for 60 grand, he could probably have earnt far more using his knowledge for modern ecus, egr failure, dpf filters, air flow meters etc. Nothing left of one other than an ecu! Probably sold on possibly even on here as a 'tub' without a v5 to 'keep another mini on the road' lol

It's getting ridiculous. I was reading earlier about a gang of Eastern Europeans who are to blame for a huge amount of vehicle thefts. The thing is, they have to get these cars or parts out of the country - to Africa and Cyprus. If the authorities can crack how they check shipping containers for stolen cars and parts, they would be getting somewhere. Any UK registered vehicle found in a container must be investigated thoroughly by double-checking with the police stolen vehicle database - even if the paperwork appears to be in order. It just seems too easy for these criminals to hide a car behind some mattresses and send it on its way.

Unfortunately this type of theft seems to be common , and due to the sheer number of containers its impossible to check even a small percentage , and then it would only be hit or miss . I believe the ones they catch are due to intelligence , ie someone has told them . The theives  use a lot of complex paper trails so its difficult to find who has shipped the stuff , and i guess they accept the rare occasional loss as a occupational hazard , resulting in a drop in the ocean compared to what they make .

 

 And as for mini theft , its obvious that people are among us that do it , im betting they are on here . They know how much things are worth which means they are enthusiasts .

 

 Thats one thing i have never got my head around , people into there cars , passionate even , but do not seem to mind stealing them from someone else .

Hmm. I know. There was a newbie post from Eastern Europe a little while back asking for advice on reprogramming an MPi immobilizer. May well have been genuine but, I don't know. I wouldn't be giving out that sort of help.

A Mini is the only car I have had stolen. Going back to 1981. Lucky to get the car back 8 days later minus the carb, the steering wheel and the shopping trolley

There is an mpi breaking on ebay... pretty much every part and all in good nick, by the same seller that doesnt look like a mini specialist :/

He did, police just believed he had at least 60k made from that

 

Steve (David Brown really) used to live round the corner from me, used to see him a few times at mini shows but more round my way, luckily I don't live there anymore but I had a few tries at my garage at silly o'clock in the morning but just ignored it as unless whoever it was was willing to ram raid the door down - they weren't and never got in 

 

He was probably one of them who had a go but no one ever succeeded, it wasn't until that mini article above came out it all clicked into place, he bugged me a couple of times "oh didn't I see you round xxx way"

A lot of minis got taken back then and that group got caught and now its happening again...four year sentence probably means two...timings a clever thing

I hope karma gets them, it's very upsetting to think they are probably reading this and worse still eyeing up members cars here, it's a shame we can't comfortably share slightly detailed info without worrying that someone is trying to piece it together to try and nick your car.

I got a PM yesterday from the above mentioned, obviously not too happy at what I posted (like I give a ...) apparently some of the article in the mag was not true and also my observation of things..I won't post it up on here as it is a PM, he might be a waste of oxygen but a PM is a PM 

 

So to answer your question not probably but yes they are reading this and whether they are eyeing up members cars on here...well I'll guess we'll wait for the next article, I've got faith in them as they have screwed up twice already    

 

So steve dan or whatever you want to call yourself today, post up on here, I've no time for convicted criminals but there are one or two on here who have had there minis taken that would like to know how you feel hard done by? Its almost laughable that you say that but you've got your only chance with me so don't waste it otherwise I will keep mentioning your name everytime a local mini goes missing, your call

Its disgusting that another one has been stolen in the dartford area, mine was stolen almost a year to the day before this one. Surely the police should be setting up an investigation to prevent more minis being stolen when its happening on such a clockwork basis!?
