I am looking to instal some front speakers, currently I have some jml 6x9 speaks in parcel shelf, which are good (at least to my untrained ears).

Today I fitted  two 4" 40 wrms speakers under try dash, pointing straight down. Not ideal, but they are hidden. Which is what i wanted.

What else could I have done?

I have seen that you can buy door pockets with speaker enclosures, but they are a bit pricey.

Maybe try and see if they will fit behind the dash and fire out near the air vents? Might need some modifying of the vents but could work.

Cam.

Behind the vents, but refit the vent front so it hides the speaker a bit

Yeah liking that idea of keeping the look of the vents but having the speaker behind them.

Though the vents are pretty useful in the summer. I know people complain that they are not so effective though I think they are fine!

Ive always hated the look of speakers on the dash, but my recent purchase 1275gt had them there, and i actually didn't mind how they looked, and once the fade was set sounded good. I think so long as its kept subtle in looks, not too "chavy" it can look fine imo.

Best picture i had of it.

I agree that is actually alright! Though I think your black dash suits it better than my walnut dash would.

I plan on emulating Mini 360's look. I know you've said you want to keep the fresh air vents (something I'm hoping to do as well...looking into possibly relocating them in a custom center console). Mini 360 has 4" speakers in place of the vents. The customized grille and use of the chrome gauge rings make it look factory and subtle. I'm looking to do the same with quality 4" coaxial speakers complimented with two or four 6.5" subs under the rear seat.
