So now is the time I've decided to rebuild my first car and save it from the scrappy. To be honest it's not that bad just the usual rot it's been left for two years as I wanted away from minis for a while now I'm wanting the fun and stress again lol.

Good luck :) Looks like a nice mini and it's great to see another one being put back on the road.

I'm just in the middle of deciding whether I can get away with replacing both sides of the floor the piece that has the inner and outer sill and keep the tunnel as its ok.

Got some other doors for £40 as my frames are horrible so I'm going to re skin these as the frames are decent and need very little work

after removing the door skin i was left with some minor but not unexpected rot

IMG_0866_zps1x5l8yvh.jpg

i cut out what i needed to and kept as much as possible

IMG_0870_zpsmbamtjxk.jpg

then finally finished filling in the sections and then grinding the welds back.

IMG_0873_zps2vwnoou6.jpg

finished it off with a coat of zinc primer. I'm happy about my first ever attempt at this just got the other door to remove the skin and check the frame.

Although the car is way off from this point I can't do anything else while I'm currently emptying the garage so I can work in there. I got to messing around with the grill I customised and the lamp brackets I made.

IMG_0942_zps79ov9hiw.jpg

I like the up and down style. My dad had some of the brackets that do this but I never liked how far in front of the bumper they sit from a side profile

IMG_0945_zpsepsp6prl.jpg

IMG_0946_zpsn6jqrnfw.jpg

Made up my own template on paper and made sure all the heights were the same just different angles so not as far forward of the bumper

IMG_1304_zpsg9llfgbu.jpg

Also grill has no surround to screw to the front of the car so will be held on with grill buttons and is also cut and shaped to fit under the brackets. Will post a pic of the grill when I've painted it

So today has been quite productive, managed to get the fuel lines, fuel tank, wiper mechanism, exhaust/inlet manifold, brake master cylinder and clutch master cylinder out. Also coated the surface rust of the bulkhead and the crossmember with some Kurust today. Bulkhead is pretty strong, been checking around with a screwdriver for any weak spots found one small one, but nothing a little patch won't solve.

So managed yesterday to get the garage cleared up with enough space to fit the car. Once it was in I removed all of the glass, headlining and treated some small spots of surface rust then painted the underside of the roof with some satin hammerite. Will post pics later

It's looking good bud, keep the pictures larger like in your last post is my tip at the moment, as everyone likes to see stuff. What's the rust like behind the front shock mounts? Or not looked yet?

I know I should keep the pics large even I struggle to see the first ones haha. Only just got photobucket. Rust behind shock mounts isn't to bad, when I was driving the car it had one side repaired but will probably cut that out to check underneath once I get the time to remove the engine and sub frame. Does anyone have any ideas for being able to support the car front and rear for when I remove the subframes and replace the floor ?

An old mattress or some old tyres just roll the car over onto whatever you choose. I went for tyres as I don't like fires in my garage
