Yesterday I was delivered a mini, it was previously my mini after i bought it from a fella off of here. Her name is Sarah on the account of the last 3 digits being sar.

The intention was to get the engine running and get it MOT'd for a friend who was then buying it back from me. I sold her with engine problems because for some reason she would not start and for the life of me i couldn't work out what it was.

Anyway long story short the engine was rebuilt terribly by a guy who did my welding and its in pretty poor condition as far as performance, low compression, timing well out, cam timing out, parts mixed and matched from a series and a+.... you get the picture.

So i offered it to the missus who snapped up the chance to have a project (clearly paid no attention to the obscene amount of money mine has cost ha)

SO WITHOUT FURTHER A DUE.... *DRUM ROLL*

here is Sarah the 1988 project

I don't understand how this works... your mrs took on the project, and is paying for it and doing the work? or paying for parts and you do the work? or paying you to do the work?

All I know is that in my house this would only go one of two ways.

Option 1 - "I don't want it".

Option  2 - "Yay, I want it - when will you have it finished and ready for me?"

:proud:

Option 2. With an addition of her removing all the interior lol.

Working on her right now and there is probably more petrol in the gearbox then there is oil. I think this engine may be *beeeeeped!!*

My bulkhead has some similar creases, not quite to that extent though.

Its strange. There is no other damage so i doubt it was from a collision. Maybe that panel didnt fit at the factory so they squashed it haha.

Mine is very similar.  Seen more than one mini with the same style wrinkles

Alot of progress was made today. The wiring is all completely gone. All i can say i good riddance. It was a birdsnest of wires that had no place whatsoever in the bay.

With the wiring done my next step was to get the engine out, i decided dropping in through the bottom would be easier because it saves me fiddling with the mount bolts etc.

started off with a shocker. This engine had only ran about 150 miles after its engine refurb and the oil looked like this and smelt like petrol.

Rocker off.

Out of all the bolts i undid there where only 2 that caused me trouble so out can the drill and grinder for a little bit more persuasions.

With a little help from the old man, the missus and a twisted ankle, brused and crushed left hand the engine is out

The misses also came down to help strip out the interior of which she managed to get half out and then we had to start moving the shell around.
IMG-20150313-WA0007_zpsxi9aevty.jpg

Overall the body work is pretty sound. The floors where immaculate when i sold her before but there is signs of a jack pressing into the pan so will need beating out.

That is as far as i got today so updates to come on my next day off :)

The creases on the Bulkhead are totally normal. Have a look under the front carpet where the toeboard sits under the front edge of the 'tunnel' in the middle. It will also be creased and buckled. It's just from the pressings is all.

totally fine!

Sadly i didnt get time to unleash the beast onto my own gearbox to get that first motion bolt of but i did get alot done with the missus project.

Overall i am very pleased with the shell. Like all minis there are the usual rust and corrosion spots but as far as it goes the shell is pretty solid.

Here are a few pics :) enjoy.

First door off, other door is stuck so ill be cutting out the A panel and grinding off the bolts instead.

Pulled up the carpet to see someone had clearly jacked it up on the floor.... BOTH SIDES!! So it looked like this :(
20150327_163800_zpsmfyri2s9.jpg

with a little help from my foot and timmy the mallet, it now looks like this! :)

So after today i am almost done stripping down the shell ready for cutting and welding. :):):):)
