Hi just wanted to know if anyone uses their mini as a daily commuter with potential long motorway drives?
Been told by the bloke selling the mini I'm interested in that they're not happy on the motorway and that the engine will take a good beating keeping up with motorqay speeds!
Basically would love a mini but after this little input it's stuck in my mind as I'll be driving a fair bit of motorway and dual carriage roads.

Thanks

I did 1.5 years cruising at 85-90, 90 miles a day, with no trouble. Infact, I used to go faster in the Min that I do in the ZS fiesta I have, no problem what so ever in the fast lane. Obviously depends on engine spec, but it was only a stage 1 MPi.

So to the guy who told you that, I call *******.

i've got a standard 998 with  and electric ignition 42 bhp drive it on the motorway often use it as a daily and on long journeys longest being from Birmingham to Brighton cars more than fine if you keep it at 60- 70 bit noisy but that can depend on if you have a loud exhaust/ sound  proofing. it aint no BMW Saloon ride quality but can easily do the journey

A standard 998 can sit all day at 70-80 mph as long as its well mantained

An mpi would be the best choice for motorway due to the tall diff

Minis with short diff are not reccomendable as they will be noisy and tiring to drive at motorway speed

My mate had a mini mayfair 1000cc and he used that as his first car went ever where in it. He even got that thing over 100mph :) minis will be fine on motor ways mate. I have see someone on a push bike on the motor way so if he is on there you will be ok in a mini lol :D

If your ears and back can take it no problemo. Their not the most relaxing though and watch out for getting blown about when overtaking / being overtaken by HGV's.

Grew up in north wales, went to uni in Newcastle upon Tyne....my mini did a fair few trips up and down from there no bother at all.  Faired better than an old Peugeot and Fiesta I had....one died in Newcastle, the other's exhaust fell off on the M6...that was a loud trip back!!!

A well maintained mini can go anywhere and do anything....end of!!!

Drove my last one 6 hours home on the motorway from Liverpool down to the south east coast.

Didn't miss a beat and ran very well.

Used to use the M25 very often and I personally think it used to be a lot of fun.

Have done it countless times. They're fine, if a bit noisy. Have done numerous holidays up to Scotland from Cheshire, so a couple of hundred miles of motorway followed by all the Scottish A roads. Always been great.

My little man used to do me Brighton to Cardiff and back twice a week to see the boyfriend no worries. 55mph is a pleasant cruising speed if you want the radio, but 70 is easily achieved if you don't mind a bit of tinnitus the other end!

Check out the 'a not so mini adventure' thread for proof they are cracking little cars ;)
