I want to paint some new brake drums I have so they don't go all rusty in minutes...just wondering if anyone can suggest what paint to use? Do I need to use high temperature stuff like for manifolds etc?

A friend of mine used some coloured hammerite on his calipers and it seems fine...just worried this might flake off over time.

There is some laquer on ebay but i would go with hammerite.... or some poster paints/crayons if you want to do a biggav bodge.

Doesn't hammerite keep all the heat in the drum and prevent it from escaping? Anyone? Wondered if it might cook your drums and wheel bearings? I haven't done mine just incase.

sometimes hammerite can melt off.

also why bother using hammerite?... when you can buy a can of High temp paint that's meant for the job for the same price,... infact a little less in my local motorfactors..

i bought a can of Hycote to paint my engine with (was going to do the drums too) and the cap of the bottle was a really deep red but when i sprayed it was almost pink! :(

then i read on the side that the cap is only a guide, fascists. Given this i wouldn't buy high temp paint again and i think i'll be using hammerite myself next time, or maybe try actual caliper paint but i'm afraid that might just come out the same as the hycote.

Pop down to Halfrauds and pick up a tin of their Brake caliper paint. It is designed for resisting heat.

The red is really red. Only problem is that it takes about 24hrs to dry so best to leave the car well alone for that time.

Cheers

Yeah i bought the kit from halfords. It comes with a cleaner, the hight temp enamelish (i think) paint and a laquer. That did my front calipers and my rear drums all whilst still on the car. Think they only do like red, blue, yellow, silver, black, gold? maybe

Does the job tho and isn't too dear, bout 20 notes

Thanks chaps :geek:

I had a look in Halfords and bought some high temp. spray paint. They had it in red, black and black metallic. Hopefully it should do the trick...
