Hi, I have been beavering away building my Mini-Cooper-esque Van, however the electrics are still more Tommy Cooper than Mini Cooper.

As you can see from the comparason shots it has come along way and I am nearly ready for an MOT but I am having a very frustrating problem with the right hand indicator.

The last loom was toast, so I replaced that with a new MK 4 item (post 76 loom) and so has hazards in the circuit

(The van is a 1973 MK3) . The hazards work fine, so does the left hand indicators (front and rear), the right hand ones just illuminate and don't wink.  On the left hand side I had to change the bulb holder for a new one, this one had only one lead coming from it, where as the loom has two - however this is the side that works fine.  The right hand indicator has the older type bulb holder with two wires - which are both connected - so why isn't it working?  Do both left and right bulb holders need to be exactly the same?  by the way, all fuses are fine as are all the relays.

Thanks for any advice/thoughts

Adam

worth checking the connection on the steering stalk loom -

the pins in the connector can push their self out causing resistance & oxidise as well

also check earths & terminals on that side - only takes a bit of oxide / corrosion to cause resistance - are they slightly dimmer ?

if the indicator unit don't get hot enough the contacts won't separate (2 pin)

may be an idea to get the 3 pin one , it dosn't rely on heat

after reading the problem again - have all the earth points on the loom been connected / checked ?

sounds like one side is earthed in the indicator housing & the other goes back into the loom to be earthed

(if that makes sense)

To test if its a earth problem make a temp earth wire and touch the body of the holder, the single wire holder earths through the screw to body, the 2 wire earths to the blacks behind the grill

Hi, well after fiddling around I managed to get them winking perfectly.  But now, trying to tidy the loom the sidelights have stopped working.  I have power right through the loom to the lights, and what appears to be good earths - but no sidelights! Ughhh,.

hanks for your help on the winkers though

^^ bullet connectors behind front grill

they love corrosion , can't remember the colour of the wire thou for side lights - think it will be the thinnest of the 4

may be an idea to clean them all up

edit - quick check - looks like it should be the red / green wire

maybe someone else can confirm this ?
