My friend and I are looking to start a media blasting/powdercoating business but we are after a business name!

We are called Andrew Forbes and Greig Morrison, so if the names can be combined into it in some way, that'd be great.  We are going to be specialising in car parts, focussing in on our two passions (Minis for me and old VWs for Greig)  Logo isn't important at this stage as I will make one based on what the name is in the end

So any better suggestions than what we have at the moment?  All we can think is 'MoFo Blast' which although funny and memorable, isn't really professional.....

Hate to be practical 'n boring - if you're setting up as sole traders, as you most likely should be, you're required to trade under your own names. You can still include something snappy as well, but it can be an unnecessary minefield avoiding  existing intellectual property.

Go for a verb like or adjectival slogan, "Just do it" or "probably the best... in the world" are at least as memorable as their brands. I give you - "...the people you can trust to bust the rust", but Scrub-a-Dub would have been the obvious name choice.

How about BLAST FROM THE PAST if you're going to be specialising on classic cars?

Being partners in the business, surely it wont be set up as sole traders?

Also like it!

Shall suggest these and see what we end up with.  Still open to more suggestions though!

Sole trader status is what you are if you're not a limited company, it doesn't matter how many of you there are. Limited means if the business goes under any creditors are limited to taking what they're owed from the company's assets - not your personally owned house 'n car...

Being a sole trader is easier and cheaper, but you and your business's assets are one and the same, so it can make sense to only put one person's worldly possessions on the line. If one of you owns  your house, and the other rents, you should be able to see whose name to trade under. The other would be a self employed contractor.

I don't see any advantage in being a partnership, unless you need your pooled assets to secure a loan or lease. You'd want a legal agreement about dividing costs, assets and profits that could be avoided by going day to day and job to job, at least until you get established enough to make a steady profit.

Looking at a partnership as we are funding all the equipment ourselves 50:50 split.  Same goes for any profits/assets we have along the way.
