Helo all.

Want to strip the paint of my Mini, and want a lazyman2006 product...

So i was thinking nitromorse? But when having a word with a fellow TMF'r they said it could harm the filler thats underneth...

When i say the filler, the proper stuff they used on the prodution line...

Is Nitromorse ok to use? if not what else can i use, and get hold of quite cheaply?
I am looking to strip the full car.

and

2, it gives one NASTY chemical burn....as i found out....when i sat on a big blob of the stuff. still got the scar i bleive....anyone want pictures? :(

Don't they give some "inperfections" a once over to get some bit smooth? such as over the top of spot welds?

yeah as said it really burns,

i think one of the main down points to using nitromorse is you have to wash it off so you will be esposing the lovely bare metal to moisture

why do you want to strip the the car completely of paint dude?

You only need to go to bare metal on the areas where you have rust to get rid of. The rest can just be keyed nicely with some 800wet and dry used wet.

I would not use Nitromors... it's more trouble than help, if you don't get every last chemical trace of it off before you put new paint on, it will lift the paint back off. It's also crappy at getting rid of the thick Highbuild Primer That Rover used. and you will get through a ton of the stuff... by buying Nitromors you'll easily cover the cost of an orbital sander that would key the surface great.

As far as I know Rover never used filler as standard, they did use this high build primer stuff though which help mask verrrry slight imperfections but only if they're concave not convex.

Well the roof is ok....

Its just the paint thats been put on, is about 3-4mm thick!!!
Anyone thats seen the chip on my door, thinks it filler, when its actully paint!!

Its a very thick paint, and wanted to try and thin it out for when I come to re-spray it... (god knows how many colours its been)
and well, I didn't want a "Thick" paint look when it comes round to re-spray

the chip on your door is defo filler! it that was paint it would be getting on for 5 mm thick all over, your car would way a ton and nothing would close due to panel gaps being full of paint! take all the paint off the panel you want with a sander, using nitromorse will take a long time and as retro 10's say's, you need every little last bit of the stuff off or you will just have paint peeling back off!

Oh, well if you say its filler, I'll beliave you!!

Where can i get my mitts on a decent sander to do the job in hand?
Also, other than the bit of rust that need treating... how much do I need to take off?

Enough so that the oridgnal paint can be used a thin primer?

They just put all the welds where you can't see them with all the doors closed and trim fitted. The only real visible seam is the top of the A panel, which is a line of Mig so quite smooth. It's cheaper on the line to throw a dented body away than it is to fill and sand one. They might fill one if it got dented towards the end of assembly but it's unlikely.

It was me that was talking about filler. I was on about stuff I had experienced on my car. I used nitromorse on the roof only to find that someone (at some point, not during production) had filled a nice dent in the roof and the Nitromorse really butchered it.

What I was trying to get at is that using Nitromors could make alot more work for you, especially if there are any dents etc. that have been filled previously.

Sand it down, it's the future! :(

Random orbital. Not just a normal orbital. They don't tend to do these for DIY woodwork anymore so you might not find one at B&Q or similar. On-line might be your best bet.

pffft every B&Q, Focus, Homebase and other such places I've been to have random orbital sanders.

how much do I need to take off?

You basically just need to get rid of all the shine of your paint work. once you havea matt finish on your surface it's ready for painting! use 800grit, if you want a reallllllly smooth finish use 1200 after the 800 too.
