I have had a bad smell in the car for a while, I have had all the flex hoses of from the heater and under the wings of and I found a mouse had been there, but nothing too bad. I cleaned these out, including the foam lining which was perishing and was smelly etc.

I though that would have solved it, though it didn't.

I noticed today that the heater fan would not work, while testing for a 12v at the switch (no volts)  I noticed that the smell was coming firm the heater.

I then checked the fuse and it was blown, replaced it and blew immediately.

I guess the bad smell was the heater motor burning out?

What else could it be? and what is the fuse blowing?

Many thanks

Take the heater out and check for dead mouse and nibbled wires

i guess that is the next thing to do. Though it has been smelly since last autumn and the fan worked then.

What kind of smell? A while ago, we had a copydex-like pong in the SPi that went on for weeks, and the cause revealed itself when a nozzle on the heater matrix came off & emptied the coolant into my shoe. It was hot antifreeze we could smell.

Absolutely stinking, slimy and unpleasant.

the matrix appears t have corroded from the outside in, the mouse pee ( i assume) has basically dissolved the fins on the matrix into pulp.

the motor on the fan has also gone. I have tried lubing it up but it hasn't worked. I tried it over a battery  and it needs a push to get going.

Looks like i need a new matrix and fan.

the motor on the fan is

I can still smell it….

To add pain to injury those seeds look awfully similar to the ones i put out for the birds in the winter.
