Good luck with the builld dude. A few of us have the pro-mo conversion on here so between us we should be able to assist should you require it at any point.

What are you bulding it for? Track or road car?

Just curious as to what they're like to drive 'normally'? In traffic etc, are they grumpy to drive?

Not got many miles on mine but I found it fine driving around town. gets hot quick but fan does a good job of keeping it in check. Don't need to hold a lower gear either - mini is light so despite a lack of torque it will still pull surprisingly well at lower speeds in a higher gear.

Why do you want to have a carb version of the R1?

The only advantage is a little bit less electric and price of the engine but a lot disadvantages compared to the 5pw injection version:

- carb has problems with coating of the pistons (major issue with the carb models, especially the 1999 and 2000 versions)

- gear box is less strong (earlier carb version even weaker) and you stress the gearbox with triple weight of the bike in your mini which is the weakest spot on a bec, was uprated on injection

- less power then injection

- you also need all the electronic gadets like power commander as for injection version (and costs that come with that) but have the additional problem/adjustment/modification with the carb needle.

If you drive it on the street, search here in the forum for the modification with the belt drive instead of a chain, makes a major difference in noise levels. If the major issue for me with promotive's low ground clearance wouldn't exist I would have also got promotive with this belt modification.

Never really thought of the injection motor all ways been a carb man myself but now you highlighted some possible issues I take it into account
Cheers for the advice

I find the main difference with injection over a carb`d R1 motor is the superior torque curve. This much improves the way an R1 mini drives on part>full throttle from low to medium RPMs. Plus, no manual choke, and superior fuel consumption. I can get 40mpg from mine on a cruise.

IMHO it is worth the extra effort to go 5PW from the start if possible.
