Let the fight begin. ;)
I prefer a quite ligh toil ( ATF).
20W50 as some people will say is way too thick. Standard SU oil is SAE 30 if I recall right.

ATF like Dusky said.

I lost a fair bit of the oil in mine mine so topped it up with 20/50 and it was too thick and was making the throttle slow to react when cold.
I've got some Penrite SU damper oil in it now, and it is much better. The SU brand oil is 20 weight:

Mine currently has 66% 20/50w and 33% Air-tool oil (10w) It's taken a long time to get it right but the mixture and response is just about bang on now.

As Dusky says it's a hardy perennial on TMF
The damper stops piston flutter and also provides the enrichment that other carbs have an accelerator pump for. Thicker oil gives more enrichment as it slows the piston rising: creating more depression across the jet. It may be counter intuitive, but if the car hesitates when you put your foot down you're more likely to need thicker than thinner oil - after you've eliminated the many other likely causes of course.
BL/Rover specified the same oil as the engine, so that is probably the best place to start.

I use 3 in 1 oil seems good

3-in-1 or air tool oil seems to work fine.

I put 20/50 in and struggled when the engine was cold. (As I understand it that's the 50 bit of the 20/50 : 20 when when hot, 50 weight when cold.)
I've bought a bottle of SU oil for less than £5, but not got round to trying it yet. I figure if it's that cheap, no one's gonna know better than the folk who build the carbs.
