On a recent trip, we came upon a 'setting' that was used in one of the more recent Star Wars movies as a set, in the Australian township of Cobber Pedy;-

I have watched all the Star Wars Movies and recon they are awesome, but I am not a 'hard core' fan by any stretch. Does anyone recognise which one this was used in?

I'm not a big fan either but I'd still like to have a wrecked spaceship 'docked' in my street. :-)

Guessing that is Tatooine. The desert home world of Anakin, Luke and the rest of the skywalker family.

In that case it was probably used in Movies 1 and 2.

IIRC the original trilogy was shot entirely in the USA.

Tatooine is in Tunisia.

I think this must be from the later 'films'.

Might have to drag out the DVDs,,,,,,  just for a gork!

Thanks guys, yeah, I'm quite sure it was used in one (?) of the last three.

Yeah, cool I thought!

Funny, I did a flying visit though there a few years back, and never gave this place a second look. It's in the Main Drag, right across the road from the Bakery.

Nope. The Skywalker farm was in Morocco I think - environment bods were all excited a year or two back as a dune was moving towards swallowing it and it was/is going to give them a fixed reference point to see how fast it moves which is apparently difficult in normal circumstances. A hell of a lot of the studio work for the originals was done at Pinewood in the UK.

You can stay in Luke Skywalker's home in Tunisia as it is now a hotel. Some of the other locations are there as well

Ha,,,, OK, so it seems they didn't use that ^ for any of the Star Wars sets, though I did find somewhere that the 'artefact' was used in one of the films.

I'll be back there in about a year, so I'll dig around some more, hopefully find out what the score is on this.

Cheers

The original 3 films were shot in Elstree Studios, in Borehamwood outside London. None of them, or certainly nothing major, was shot in the US. Maybe some late inserts and pickups and a bit of revoicing but no principal photography. Tatouine is in Tunisia as said above rather than Morocco. Episode 1 was also shot in London / Tunisia. Episode 2 was largely shot in Australia and then massivley re-shot in London as the very early HD technology used to shoot it didn't hold up and it had to be mostly redone on film against blue screen. Episode 3 was an Australian film. Episode 7 was shot almost entirely at Pinewood and 8 is about to be, 9 and all the spinoffs are also planned to be there.

Elstree - knew it was somewhere in the UK as an ex managers brother worked on the original three (no idea what he did - probably tea boy).

Done some digging and it was Anakin's home from Episode 1 that was at risk of being swallowed by sand and yes it's in Tunisia too. Dunno where I got Morocco from.

Hmmm. bump into each other, we may have Dan. worked at Pinewood, Elstree Ealing, Shepperton and what is now the harry potter park at Leavesden airodrome studios! I worked for a company called "shadowmaster" designing and manufacturing lighting filter products.

Ps. I also starred in a few star wars films LOL
