Hy guys, I own a 1980 mk4 mini...it's got no engine plates or anything. I've only got the number on the block it self which is. 99H905AJH003723

Would you guys be knowing what specific engine it is?

Where are you? Googling the prefixes suggests it's a 1980 Aussie Moke

Not really. As the info about the Mokes relates to the gear ratios.

So it might just be an export spec gearbox with a different final drive.

But that is just me making a guess.

Or from one of the links given in the other topics where you have asked this. (Or there are other members on here from Nairobi with the same engine number)
Something to do with Aussie emissions restrictions.

"It is believed the codes relate to engine emission control requirements for Australia."

I'd have to check my records in the morning (our time), but does at a glance appear to be an Aust Moke (and / or maybe a Late Aust Mini) engine no.

I am not sure if we exported Minis to Nairobi, but I do know that we exported Mokes to there, so that may explain it. As Nick has hinted at, the main difference between a Moke Engine and one from a Mini is only the Final Drive Ratio.

I'll check on the number and come back.

It was an engine fitted to the Late Mokes from around October / November 1979 until the end of Aust Production (December 1981).

I don't think it would have had Air Injection, basically a stock 998 as you'd find in most Minis, however the FD ratio would have been 4.2:1. To swap over the FD is a relativity easy job and I'd guess that is what would have been done when it was fitted in to your car.

As I mentioned above, Aust made Mokes were exported to Nairobi, so I'd say that's how it ended up in your country in the first instance.

That is presuming that the box is also as fitted to the engine and not as fitted to the car.

the year of manufacture of my mini is 1980...but it isn't a moke. Yeah Mokes were sold brand new in the 80's here... that's cool that you guys went out of your way to find out about my engine, thanks a lot !!! Really appreciate it

I would want one more favor from you guys...how can I find out if my mini is an Austin or Morris?

For that you need the VIN

But then you could look at any badges or any documentation.

But unlikely to be either.

Neither Austin or Morris existed in 1980, it's BL. It may be called an Austin Rover but that was just a trade name for BL cars ltd. around the time your car was made the organisation changed it's name every few weeks but in reality they were just BL.

My 1980 model HLE Metro, is badged as an Austin Metro, though the Plate on the lock panel says BL Cars Ltd. I also note the owner's book says Austin and Morris on the cover!

I guess it was a time when no one knew who they were working for!
