So I'm currently replacing most of the front end and I noticed upon fitting the bonnet, that there was a sizeable go between the back end and the scuttle. I can't remember if this is normal or not. I have the hinges placed on the outside edge and as far back as they will go. Also, I've noticed that if the bonnet goes any farther back toward the scuttle panel, it gets the inside edge gets caught on it. Am I on the right track?

Pictures below.

Cheers!

Exhibit A:

About a half inch gap between the back of the bonnet and the scuttle panel.

Exhibit B:

The hinges placed at the outside brackets with the furthest setting back.

My mk1 has gap similar and I have adjusted bonnet in an attempt to reduce it and if I do the rear flange on bonnet will catch on the scuttle. Main thing is if it's even and level with scuttle then go with alignment at front of wings. I tried bending flange on back of bonnet to gain more clearance but didn't have much luck

Other than welding a bit on the back of the bonnet I can't really see a solution.

Is it a heritage bonnet?

No it's not a heritage bonnet... but I've measured the placement of the brackets and they are in the exact same spot as my original factory hood.

Err... excuse my Canadian spelling... I mean the original factory "bonnet".

I took another look today and the gap is just under half an inch. I seem to remember it being like that before.

Oh I forgot to mention, my car is a MKIV.

Is it a new scuttle??? there maybe a slight size difference from the original. You can carefully tweak things around a bit. Some minor trimming maybe needed as well. Very difficult to add metal to the back of the bonnet but can be done. I would be slotting hinge mounts etc before even going there.

It's the original scuttle. Honestly I think the gap is meant to be there. From my research, the gap is there for the rear bonnet seal.
