I am looking to buy an R1 mini this weekend with the intention of using it for some sprint racing but have a few questions I hope someone on here can clarify. The car in a 1992 mini with a home built roll cage used only for strengthening and altering suspension pick up points which is not msa certified as a roll cage. I am wondering whether I can run in the modified car class as the car stands or what has to be done to make the car eligible to run in any class ?

most likely run in the sports Libre class. will not run in the Mod. Prod. class as the block and box are not original.

What are the regulations on non msa certified cages in that class and the need for fitting fire extinguishers and such like in that class?

good question. you will need a current copy of the Blue book to read. which i dont have.

Fire extinguishers are not required for speed events IIRC.

cages can be a bit of fun as some parts have to fulfil certain requirements but other bits dont.

you best bet is local event and find out who the cheif scrutineer and get the car checked over. but reading the Blue book should be your first point of call.

Thanks for all the advice. I'll try and find my blue book and try and talk to a scrutineer.

I have spent the night reading the blue book and the car will be eligible to run in the road going kit, replica & spaceframed cars (motorcycle derived engine) class. As in that class a certified roll cage is not required unlike the sports libre class but you are aloud to change engine position, drive wheels, suspension pick up points and strengthen the chassis.
Thanks for the help 👍🏻
