P-Clip Or 'tangs'?

Just got my new boot floor assembly a notice is doesn't come with the 'tangs' to hold the rear wiring loom to the boot floor. 

 

looking through peoples build treads i notice that while some people fit them, others go for P-clips - just wondered why and what the advantage of the p-clips are over the original method??

 

Also, if you're fitting the P-Clips how do you blot/screw them to the floor? weld nuts? self tappers??

 

same goes for the clamps for holding the break and battery cable to the floor pan.

P-Clips rock!  They are rubber lined so reduce vibration and simply pop rivet into place.  Used them throughout my car for fuel/brake/wire lines :)

If you want them to be removeable then use rivnuts.

As for the wiring in the boot you could just bolt the p clips to the boot hinge bolts, that's what I'm planning

I have welded in new tangs but I may remove these and go for P clips. I would not use riv nuts though. Depending on what dia bolts you use I would weld nuts in place, or you could weld in studs instead like I did on Project Erm.

Can't see any issues with rivnuts, it isn't going to be stressed after all. It's exactly the sort of application rivnuts were designed for. They also look neater as long as you use the decent quality ones but you won't see them so that probably doesn't matter too much.

Like anything with rivnuts use the wrong ones you get corrosion, not fitted correctly they will spin. Not a lover of them. We have them at work and have spent numerous hours sorting them from heavy handed apes.

no different to using a rivet in that respect. I have used them in numerous cars from minis to kit cars with no problems. For none stressed applications they are perfect and far cheaper than proper captives which would be overkill for wiring (and susceptible to the same issues depending on the rivet fixings on some captives.

Surprised people in your industry can't manage something so simple! Quite worrying really.

What you have to remember our aircraft get serviced in different countries which then brings in its own set of issues with regards to how things are installed. Wherever possible rivnuts are removed and we then use potted inserts.

Personally if I could I would be using nickel plated anchor nuts with Monel rivets. No issues with corrosion then. The biggest issue is being able to have access to form the solid rivet. Some prior thinking before installing panels would be needed.
