Hi,

I have read all other topics on this subject, I promise!

When I had 80s and 90s Minis when they were new, I had lots of issues, but never with the heater cable, which is why this is so infuriating.  Its also infuriating because I understand how its meant to work and can't see why it doesn't, and because its really simple!

My 1990 Cooper was rebuilt by Somerford, and so has mostly new bits and bobs under the bonnet, lucky me, including the heater valve, heater cable and heater hoses!  The heater goes blisteringly hot, and cold as it should.  But for the life of me I cannot adjust the cable to work.  I can move the valve itself through its full range of movement, although it is a bit stiff.  I can also move the heater knob easily when its disconnected.  But when its connected I can't get it to push the valve shut.  It sort of goes springy and the knob won't go hard against the dash, and the valve stays open enough to keep the heater hot.

Is there some knack to putting the cable in the clip?  If so I really can't figure it out!

Thanks for any hints & tips!
