My first car was a MkI Astra - mine was an Astra L 1300s though. It had round headlights which I thought made it look far cooler than the standard ones. When it needed a set of wheels I picked up a set of 14" alloys with decent tyres from a Cavalier CD which really suited it.
I did briefly have a 1200 saloon (like the white one pictured). I remember standing at the counter in the Swinton insurance office arguing with the guy that yes there was such a thing as a MkI Astra saloon - he wouldn't believe me so I ended up going elsewhere.
I never really thought they suited having the bodykit the same colour as the car like the GTE's - I always thought the SR looked far better where the kit was in black. A girl at my college had a mint green SR that I lusted after (both the girl and the car). Later I worked with a girl who had a Celebrity "limited edition" (which seemed to be a very common looking through the autotrader magazine at the time). By that time I was lusting after one of the other girls who worked there as she had a MkII GTE with the digital dash.
