Which ever is the greatest distance from the centre hole to the edge of the body work plus 8-10" i would say

Mine was made from metre lengths of box section, so my upright was a metre

Mines about 950mm. 850mm will be too short - measure from the center of your hole, diagonally to the top corner of the roof and bottom of the flitch, then add a bit for safety.

Apols for hijacking the thread but does anyone know when the hole in the rear seats was discontinued?
My son's car is a '73, we're in the process of building a spit and there is no such hole.
I thought that Mk 3s normally had the hole?

I think the rear Roto-Dip aperture was deleted on the later Mk3 cars

I've restored minis on tyres and on a jig and I've gotta admit I prefered working on it on tyres. No idea why just much more piece of mind
