Hi

Has anyone had any experience with orbital disk sanders i need to prepare my mini for paint some time soon and ive picked up a decent ocelating orbital disk sander to use with my compressor but i don't want any lines in the paint that will show up later but i don't want to sand the thing by hand so i wondered if anyone had used one.

Thanks

If the paints fine, some flatting compound on a  wet scotch pad is what the bodyshop that I go to uses.  Takes the sheen off the paint and cleans as it goes.  Doesn't take much effort either.

I have used both an air da and a mirka ceros electrical one, they are very good for flatting paint but I still use large sanding blocks for shaping and flatting filler.

Unfortunately i have been told to remove all of the black paint from mine (half the car is black) for a respray so I've got some work to do :)

You need a BIG compressor to run a DA (dual action) sander. I've got a twin cylinder Ingersol Rand monster with a 200l tank and it won't keep up with a 6" DA for any length of time. I've got an electric DA sander that I tend to use for large areas - it's a Clarke one from Machinemart. I've also got a "mouse" oscillating sander that came from Lidl or Aldi some years back (whichever one sells lime green stuff) and I highly rate it.

My 3hp Clarke keeps up with da but is noisy with sander running as well. I invested in a mirka ceros and its superb and is nearest to air sander I could find. I burnt out a cheap electric da from screwfix as all the dust must have got in motor.

I have a Bosch air one used everyday never let me down for the passed 4 years electric ones work well too if you haven't got a bigger enough compressor, scotching is good just not the best method on large panels as i rarther wizz over with a 500, 800 wet and dry also just my choice/ works better for me
