There is a guy on Facebook called 'Rob Bear' asking anyone who sees an advert for a mini on eBay, Facebook, gumtree etc that they think is either a ringer or illegal to message him and he will look in to it.  He states he's a police officer and best placed to look into it so not to spook the seller.

He's a member of fb group 'mini classic 1959-2000' and also the stolen classic mini page.

Not sure if he's a member on here as well, but it maybe worth letting him know when you see anything a little dodgy.

There's also a more official route of reporting it. NaVCIS are members on here (National Vehicle Crime Investigation Service) and there are also a few Police that are members. I think they've mainly been focusing on ringers (especially where it could be a stolen car), but they are definitely actively checking out various fora and Facebook groups for obvious logbook sales, tax exempt logbook ringers, later Minis on early registrations etc.

Any route of reporting something suspect is a good thing if it helps cut vehicle crime though :)

It is strange that there are departments set up to look into such things yet you can put Mini V5 into the Ebay search most days and find logbooks for sale :(

I am constantly reporting these to Ebay but they just seem to take off the listing for it to re-appears a few days later. Where are these people that investigate such things and why are they not knocking on these guys door?

Maybe they're taking note of the reg and waiting until it "appears" in the system again (MOT passed, taxed etc)???

Unless Rob Bear is working for the NAVCIS or another official body, then i say leave it to the professionals.

It is really simple to report suspicious cars now and they have trained staff who can if necessary actively inspect said cars.

It's a waste of time reporting V5's and dodgy cars to eBay because all they seem to do at best is remove the listing and do nothing to prevent it being re-listed a few days later.

The NAVCIS are unlikely to reply to every report but they do listen and they do act so they are the best people to go to. (No offence to Rob Bear?)
