I spent something like 4-5 hours show prepping the Mini today, using Auto Finesse products (Soul Wax, Ultra Glaze and some Revive).

I'm pretty pleased with my first attempt :)

What products do you use? Any pictures?

Corey.

What is a de-tar and how does one do that? Also how often does one need to use a cutting compound, are both the 105 and 205 cutting compounds and what is the difference between the two types of applicator pads?

7 Hours?

I really enjoyed detailing my Mini, but I don't know if I could manage 7 hours

Did you do it in one sitting?

You can buy a product called Tardis

http://www.polishedb...art-tardis.html

I have it in a little spray bottle. I do it every few months to get rid of the little specs from the car.

You need a DA really to apply 105 and 205 on the appropriate pads (I have a DAS-6 with chemical guy pads). I'm talking rotary polishing for those not in the know, this is not hand applied as you won't get the cut to remove swirls.

http://www.meguiarso...-Orbital-Buffer

This isn't a 5 minute thing, its very intensive work for the paint and if you don't know what you're doing you can break through the lacquer and into the base coat. I do it over 2 days as i let the paintwork fully dry before i use any polish. have a look on youtube, there are LOADS of vids :)

I agree. Those 4-5 hours flew by, and seeing the finished product is so worth while. Now I started I feel I can't stop. I'm already planning on buying loads more stuff!

Spent most of the day on Vinnie. Megs 205 and Poorboy's Black Hole via DA, followed by Auto Finesse Desire

Brownie points for the sticker surely?   ;D

I was hoping for Brownie Points too, until the sh*tty sticker ripped as soon as I pulled the backing off! Looks awesome though, is Desire worth the £119.95?

Bad times! It really is awesome, but I do struggle to see me spending anywhere near that much on a wax. I apply wax pretty often, so longevity really isn't an issue for me (I get that from sealant anyway). I think I'd perhaps stretch to Illusion if I came in to a bit of money though! Luckily I got a sample pot thrown in from Auto Finesse! You know you're ordering too much from them when that happens...

Lucky sod  :gimme: I was thinking about getting the Illusion when my Soul runs out. Are you talking about the Power Seal? If you are how good is that stuff? I was thinking about getting it myself.

Thanks, I guess before buying the cutting compounds I'd better go and buy a dual-action polisher. The meguiar's polish and wax worked reasonably well without a rotary buffer, though I do need to remove the swirl marks from the surface.

Not used an AF sealant yet, still working my way through Autobrite Abyss Spray Sealant. Probably the easiest product I've used. Spray on an applicator spread over paint, glass and plastic (everything) and buff off. Gave 8 months easy through winter on the daily, and was still beading like a good'un when I stripped it off to do a correction over Easter.

I imagine it's similar to Tough Coat

Shunning work on your car there it looks like it has a proper deep shine. Do like the bag you have for it all as well :)
