Spent an hour thoroughly washing the mini, then another hour with some Turtle Wax which I happened to find knocking about in the cupboard... add some tyre shine for a finishing touch and here is the result:

Also one thing I find makes a HUGE difference to the overall look of the car, is cleaning under the arches deep into the wheel well:

You can probably spot that I missed a few areas, namely the rear valance and on the sill, but after seeing this picture I quickly cleaned them up  :proud:

Got to see this in the Masterton nationals today. Thanks for bringing it all the way down from Auckland. Loved the roof rack.

Mine after 2 bucket, de-tar, clay then a compound polish - green pad with Megs 105 then white pad with Megs 205. Megs gold wax to finish - total time 7 hours.

What is a de-tar and how does one do that?

I'm sure Steve220 is talking about actually removing the tar from his vehicle. To get a perfect showroom shine with a machine polisher you need to remove all the cr@p from the surface of the paintwork. There's a huge amount of tar, road dirt, tyre rubber, iron that leaches onto the paint through normal usage.

Using a good tar and glue remover (AutoSmart) and iron remover (Tar-X), followed by a good clay (Meguiars Clay with Dodo Juice Lube) and you'll see and feel a huge difference in the gloss finish.
