Hi,

I am planning on fitting a new exhaust for my Mini. I want one that sounds deep and sporty, but not loud and obnoxious. Only problem is I don't know what exhaust to have, and when I see on I like I don't know what else I need to buy (e.g. Manifolds etc). I had my mind set on a 1.75 Maniflow, but after contacting MiniSport I have found out that it wont fit my 1995 SPi 1275cc, unless I remove the cat (wont this effect my MOT in the future?).

All I want to know is what sort of exhaust springs to mind for you, and what do I need. Everything from manifold to exhaust tip. Budget isn't really an issue although I don't want to spend  too much. Website links will be very helpful.

Thanks,

Corey

i run a triple branch stage 1 manifold with a straight through sportex twin upsweep back box which sounds AMAZING but it is very loud..

my point of mentioning that is i've just had it MOT'd about a week ago and it passed no problem, emissions where fine and everything (its a straight through all the way, no centre silencers or cat) so i'd presume taking the cat out for you would be ok!

I like exhausts like that, but I'm looking for a smallish one, that sounds better not louder.

It's good to hear that it passed though, mine didn't pass emissions even with the CAT last month!

Get the maniflow, remove the cat. Then come MOT, swap back in your stock exhaust :-)

Think I finally got all the parts I need together. Is this enough?

I doubt you'll need the last link for the fitting kit.

However, you will need a new manifold gasket, catalyst gasket, and maybe new rubber hangers

I can't believe how awkward it is. Why can't stockists just sell '1.75" Maniflow Side Exit Package' with absolutely everything with instructions on what cars they will fit? I keep going round in circles.

Very silly question, if I just bought this would it be totally useless? I often get the impression that people recommend manifolds rather tell me I need them. Are the pipe sizes totally different?

Whenever I see people selling second-hand exhausts they only sell this and 1 link pipe...

In all honesty, if it's just the noise you're after, I wouldn't go through the trouble of changing the manifold. The standard cast manifold and downpipe aren't the worst for flow. Yours being an SPi, you will need a cat present for the MOT regardless if it passes emissions or not as they now check to see if its there, and fail it if it isn't.

I would personally just got for a cat back system as follows:

This video is how mine sounded with just the cat back system and a decat pipe (I put the cat back in for the MOT). I have since changed my manifold to an LCB and in my opinion, it wasn't really worth it power wise.

That's reassuring. Where did you get that exhaust from? And what size is it?
Nice sidewalk too, love the Kingfisher Blue!

To be 100% certain before I spend around £120, do I need the Cat link pipe, or can I keep the maniflow and Cat? It says it fits when there is no Cat on the site...

What manifold have you got at the moment? The standard cast one with down pipe and cat? If so, this will bolt straight on

Fairly certain. My father apparently heard the previous owner say there's a cooper manifold on there when I went to buy it. But it's definitely got a new standard downpipe and cat.
