I know i know theres a LOT of threads about 10x6 minilites wheels asking if its ok to go archless but this is very specific. My car is a 1963 Austion Cooper and Im realllyyy trying to keep mine archless but the fiancee found me some 10x6 gold minilites knockoffs with 165/70R10 tires. The car does look nice without arches and Id hate myself for peeling the chrome trim off just to put new ones on top of the arches that I might be installing. Please give your honest opinion and maybe I wont feel guilty after all.

I used to run 6x 10's and ran group 2 arches to cover the exposed wheels. They are do able and look fine but I didn't want any trouble with the Police

It depends on the offset of the wheel, but I tried one the other day & there was no way the tyre was hiding under the standard arch at all.

I believe there are only a few 4.5" minilite style wheels which fit under well.

As mentioned some period looking group 2's may be your only choice with the 10x6 rims.

I forgot to mention that I am still using the little 7" disc brakes and drums in the rear wheels. Some friends of mine say it might be just perfect without arches because of the little disc brakes but anybody in here has the same set up?

I don't think you could fit 6" wheels under the standard arches. I've got 5" wide alloys on mine with drum brakes (the same offset as 7" Cooper discs) and they just squeeze under the arches with 165 tyres.

Are you definitely sure they are 6" wheels? My ones are 6" wide from edge to edge, but the bead to bead distance is 5"

If it's an early Cooper, it might have stainless trim on it, which is very hard to find... Much easier to find some 5" minilites

Yes I just said it's 10x6 GB minilite wheels. I got it on a trade and being shipped here. Should arrive Tuesday. My car is a genuine early mk1 Austin cooper.

If staying archless means you can't put them on then don't put them on.

The maximum wheel width you can get away with without fitting wheel arch extensions is 5". At 4.5" it is fine, but 5" is right on the width limit.

I run my 1964 'S' with 4.5" and/or 5" alloys without extensions, but I certainly wouldn't want to go wider than that.

Like the OP I don't like extensions and prefer wheel standard arches.

If you run archless with 10x6, you'll have huge poke. Do it :D!

If you're in California can't you just run them with mad poke anyway? Seen a lot of hotrods etc over the pond without wheel arches and extensions and it seems legal?

I've never heard such rules in California. I've seen a LOT of honda civics drive their crazy camber wheels too.

Very nice :proud:  I have 10 x 6 GB's too, but I run group 2 arches as otherwise in the UK I would face risk of fines, license points etc.

Incidentally, GB's aren't knockoffs although they are a minilight style - they are actually very good quality wheels, and well regarded. Also getting rarer as no longer made.

Midland wheels sell 5x10 and 6x10 GB style wheels

They are similar to Australian ROH Contessa wheels too
