hey guys, I have a 1972, clubman.

its been a long time project and now its at the end of its course., but I am finding a few loose ends . namely the seal for the check strap.

so i have bought some rubber seals, and they are huge, and don't look quite right .  I have never had any seals to begin with so I also decided to buy the foam type seals, but I cant decide on what ones are right let alone best. the rubber ones are huge and don't look like they will fit at all. and the foam ones I cant decide which way around they are meant to go  . they are slanted, like a wedge shape . I am just unsure on this one

any help would be great. I know its a small thing but its the small finishing bits , and I want to get it right so the water doesn't flow in .

this is my beast , if i can get it to not leak then its carpet in, bit of brake work , tune carb and i can finally drive it!!!!! so exciting

Looks great! Canna wait until I'm at that stage, however I'm having the exact same problems that you're dealing with at this moment! I bought two of the rubber type seals and glued them on with the large side towards the outside and the narrow side towards the car interior, if you get my drift. The one on the passenger side was glued on so the outside of the rubber seal lined up with the outside of the A-pillar. This seemed to work just fine, as the door closed then it started compressing the seal just as the door locked shut. The drivers one wasn't so great though. It got glued on slightly in from the edge of the A-pillar and because if this the large side of the rubber seal got more squished between the door and the A-pillar and also it fouled the door seal itself making a fair bit of resistance for when it comes to the door locking. I tried to trim a little off the rubber seal to reduce the resistance but didn't really work and ended up tearing it off and will be ordering another one and re-glueing that on in a better position. In short the rubber ones do fit but I feel they need to be glued on so that they are at the outside edge of the a-pillar. Also the resistance I have with the door closing is also caused by the door seal hard up against the door before it closes on the lock. By the way I'm starting to hate my clubman!

I hear yah man, I am going to take the check strap and door seal off tomorrow night and have a good look at it, I haven't really done that, I was just looking for a quick answer. but like everything on the mini ; it all needs a bit of working to make it fit properly and work correctly.

will let you know how I go with it, : P
