No audio at all in my Mini and it's time to correct that... on a tight budget :)  Looking at installing a pair of 5 1/4" coaxial in the dash, and a 10" sub in the boot but not sure what amp setup I should use.

NOTE: I'm not looking for anything particularly loud - just something I can hear over my 1380cc and drop gears.

Should I use a 4ch amp (2 ch for the front, and bridge the other 2 for the sub)?

Or should I go for two amps - one 2ch for the fronts, and a mono for the sub?

Oh and any recommendation for 'inexpensive' amps? My amp budget is £150 (£200 at an absolute push)

FYI the items I'll be fitting are:

  • Pioneer MVH-X560BT mechless headunit
  • Pioneer TS-W254R 10" sub (I'll be glassing up a sealed enclosure for it)
  • Infinity PR5002is 5 1/4" coaxials (maybe not ideal and will upgrade to something better later... but don't really want bigger than 5 1/4" in the dash)

Cheers,

Colin.

I did briefly consider a 5ch amp... Soundstream Picasso Nano PN5.640D http://www.crutchfie...D.html?tp=35808... thoughts? I guess two channels would go unused... but the lack of RCA inputs kind of put me off (are those scrawny harness connectors as bad an idea as I suspect they are???).

always good to use separate amp for sub and mid/high speakers in my opinion.

now for a smaller budget most people would recommend second hand, but I have actually used a cheaper new amp and it works absolutely brilliant! I have had it 3 years and hasn't missed a beat! I would deffinatley recommend!.

http://www.bassfacea...b2-1-2-channel/ for the two front speakers. that's two brand new amps for £190

Thanks for the reply. Two amps seems the sensible way to go (but one would be nicer to save space/clutter), although I'll see if others have suggestions about 3ch or 4ch amps.

FYI - the bassface products don;t seem to be available where i live (USA)

Ah sorry didnt spot you are in the usa, well if you are wanting space one amp will work just fine! But seperate is better for sound and better for the amps...
Jbl do some nice amps at not too much money, pioneer also offer a more affordable range, i think they are both available in the u.s

I ended up ordering a 5 channel amp (Precision Power P900.5). I'll post an update once I get around to installing it.

You can always bridge the front channels to run more power to the 5.25" speakers, basically giving you a 3 channel amp.
