Am currently using Millers 10w/60 oil ->  http://www.millersoi...ctor=Motorsport in my 1293 supercharged engine - is it correct?

Thanks for that, will do. I only ask as I know fully synth is no good and noticed that the Millers 10w/60 I have is fully synth (and quite pricey).

Also when I floor the car I get lots of light blue smoke - perhaps the oil is too thin. Engine only done 2000 or so miles since rebuild (1275 to 1293 S/C + twin point jnjection)

That 'fully synth is no good' is just a myth, you have a rebuilt SC engine, a synth oil will be the best choice for it.

Although Millers tend to not last long, the oil gets thinner after 1 or 2 thousands miles. Keep an eye at oil pressure.

10w 60 is not viscous enough you need a good quality 20w 50 semi synthetic like this - http://www.minisport...0-5-litres.html
Supprised you don't beat the syncro using 10w 60

Sorry, wasn't thinking. You still need 20w 50 though. What was your running in proceedure?

Engine is new and requires running in : first 300 miles up to 4000 rpm light loads , then oil change for 20/50w oil,300-7500 slightly more load up to 4500 rpm , oil/filter  change  to 10w/60 millers oil and return for full map and rolling road test.

That was the running in advice I got and followed.

Always follow engine builder indications.

Whats missing is the service interval after run-in. Just dont expect millers 10w60 to last as long as you expect from a modern synth oil, it still needs frequent change if you do motorway trips or track days, and thats pretty much normal for a performance a series engine, either you use millers or other brands.

Don't forget Millers CTV is a competition grade oil, so designed for competition, this does not mean it is best designed for a road car...

Millers also do a 'Mini oil' which is 20w50 Mineral..

But bottom line, use your own choice of oil and change it regularly, as you have already noticed with your 10w60, looks like a service interval of 2k is required.

I think with the Mini the key is the gearbox ... and the metals used for bearings, etc. Some synth oils contain additives that aren't friendly to some metals. Mineral oil is fairly basic.

On my online A-series I plan to use 10W40 or 10W50 synth in the newly built engine (after running in with 20W50) but stick to 20W50 in the separate gearbox due to the material used in some bearings.

To be honest I do a yearly service on most fluids anyway, as the car might do less than 1000 road miles per year and no track work etc.
