Got a 53 plate r50 cooper. Bought it to replace the auto Mayfair we had. Seems to be alright so far

Make sure you change the gearbox oil as it greatly extends the life of the bearings in the earlier 5-speed Rover Midland gearbox. The correct oil to use is MTF94 2 litres.

I test drove a 57 reg Legacy yesterday and found that it drove like a smallish car. Very light, but sharp steering. Fuel costs will be terrible, I averaged 22.8 MPG on the test drive, but I was flooring it everywhere.
Has anyone owned a Legacy? Definitely my first choice now  :gimme:
(Not the exact one pictured but same spec)

These can have hugely expensive running costs, 25 to 30mpg is about normal, things to check, front lower arm bushes, centre differential, to check the diff drive roubd in tight circles if its ok it will be smooth if not then you'll feel the car getting tight and hard to move with a rattling from the gearbox area or the front cv joints. It's almost never the cv joints so don't be fobbed off unless the seller can prove that!
Servicing is dead easy, spark plugs are a little awkward but not hard. The subaru community is generally awesome too.
I'm a subaru tech, happy to help if you have any questions :D
