Not relevant for this build, but for others interested in the conversion, I asked Z-Cars about their plans for the sump and the ECU as they're the two most important bits for me; the engine is too tall for a normal mini and especially for my Minus and the ECU Charlie used was £1500 and three times the cost of the rest of the engine!  Z-Cars are working on a slimmer sump to get the engine under the normal round-nose body and, more interestingly, they are using the standard Ford ECU, though I've no idea how they plan to make it work.

Will be interesting to see how the Z-Cars conversion looks when it's ready.

That will be interesting! I have no interest whatsoever in Z-cars usual line of work. If you want a mid-engined car, you should buy one. Those are no longer real Minis. And, the business has had a somewhat doubtful recent history. (My purely personal opinions!) But that is not to say that the sump and whatever they do to make the ECU work will not be of interest.

Paul I'll very interested to see what they have to do to use the ford ecu and associated bits , with my car the sump at the height it is has not caused me and problems as yet, More concerning the gearbox diff housing is only 10mm higher than the sump so that would need to be looked at.. I absolutely love driving the thing just makes you smile, in the wet it's not so much fun it will spin in 5th/6th,

I've done near on 6500 miles in it now just need to get my arse into gear and tidy / properly finish the car now

Well done! 6500 miles is quite a lot so obviously no serious flaws in the conversion. Many Mini owners would take 3 years to do that sort of mileage nowadays. In the old days I would have done it in less than 3 months, accompanied by a few minor things breaking.

I still don't have a garage (long story involving cowboy builders) or the next Mini but have started to look at Ecoboost engines in anticipation of doing something similar.

Those keenly following this thread may be interested in the latest Car Mechanics which has some useful info on the Ecoboost.

Is there an online version for those of us overseas?
