I hear they're completely redesigning the emissions tests for new vehicles so they can't be cheated.

Nope, they are writing the rules to give the results that they want. rather than what they thought they wanted.

the VW cheat device only showed up poorly written the original tests were written and they did not even cover what people thought they did.

anything can be cheated.

I've heard more talk about buying the vehicles back again? I don't think the recalls are going to work you know? I don't understand how they can sell new cars with a recall pending either?

What did you hear? Do you mean in Europe?

KBA has halted the EU recall, seems like its not going to be acceptable (as i suspected the day after VW scandal emerged, you cant have good emissions, fuel economy, performance and reliability, something has to give...).

I thought it was is the states but I heard second hand that they said UK.

Funny how none of the other brands are grabbing any headlines like VW did.

Or no mention on the guardian website about how Mitsubishi have been doing it since the early 1990s. Or on the Express about how out of all the cars that cheat VWs are one of the cleanest anyway!

So June is here, VW have gone very quiet at the moment!

OTOH my new Scirocco is cracking, did 50 mpg on a run over the bank holiday, not bad for a 125bhp turbo petrol imo, no idea what emissions it has though :-)

Every manufacturer that does diesels cheats emissions test, every single one of them. It's just not possible to achieve the emissions results the EU want, they should ease off on the emissions regulations a bit..

Prove it.

You can not. And you could cause yourself problems stating that.

As it is not actually true.

Has anyone heard of anyone that's had an affected car 'fixed' yet?

as I understood it theres a voluntary recall being organised. They cant force anyone to take their cars back in.

the emissions as stated over and over is a complete joke. Putting more fuel and more components onto a car to reduce the effect directly from the tail pipe is backwards engineering in anyone's book surely! My 2003 golf tdi with 150k will return an easy 60 mpg if you're careful, I know of people with cars under a year old that are lower powered variants that cant match this!

There's one big problem with trying to get zero/low co emissions from petrol or diesel engines, when your burning a carbon based fossil fuels.  And co emissions are completely different to mpg.
