I am currently making an exhaust for someone doing a Micra conversion, and I am after a measurement if anyone can help that has the engine installed in their mini already. I have the original manifold to jig from, but I would like to know the distance from the exhaust gasket face to the front panel, with the engine fitted with an Allspeed subframe? Any help would be much appreciated, and I get my jig finished for these!

Nice looking exhaust!

I don't have an allspeed frame but with the lack of other replies... (my engine may be further forward but I doubt it)

My exhaust is a 4-2-1 so two pipes head down under the sump which effects what I can do.

I have my pipes sitting less than 5mm from the side of the block where it joins the sump but even with that I've had to cut 1cm or so out of the front panel for clearance.

That said your 4-1 looks to work better as you can probably put the pipes closer to the block as they won't have to make the bend around under the sump.

The bit that has clearance problems for me is middle 2 pipes as they bend downwards as I put the engine/subframe in (my engne and subframe go in from the bottom). As your extractors collect above the sump/block webbing I'd move the pipe turning from vertical to go under the sump as close as possible and use that to get the whole thing as close to the block as possible.

The furthest out my extractors come from the head where they mount is about 135mm.

Hope this helps

Nice manifold for a Micra that doesn't have a top mounted alternator. However for a Mini  I think a radical change will be needed, there's not a lot of room.

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated. That Info is just what I needed to know. I have kept the primaries short, so the down pipe joins before the subframe, so I can tuck the pipe tight into the sump recess. The setup measures 100mm fro. The flange face to the furthest point on the collect so that should clear by at least 35mm on those measurements.

Any pictures of your setup with the alternator in place? If I need to move primary no.1 over now is the time, before its all welded up.

To my knowledge no one has gone for a top mount alternator on a Mini. Only the air-con Micras have it there. I'd imagine there will be a small market for the manifolds from Micra owners.

I'm doing a slight variation with an A-series Metro subframe, but may have to put the alternator lower down anyway.

Thanks for that pic. That doesn't look to be an issue with the way I currently have it. I'll get cracking on with it.

I guess most people are using a 1 3/4 system on these engines?

I have this all welded up now, ready for its trial fitment. It's quite a bit more compact than the original, so I am hoping for plenty of clearance all round....Thanks for all the dimensions and pictures, they've helped very much! I started a thread on the Traders section about this, so I will update the fitted pictures on there shortly!

The guy I made this exhaust for has had his mini stolen, so he has decided not to continue with his build, so a I'm happy to sell this one cheaper for someone that is willing to trial fit.

I have built a jig around this manifold to put into production, but I need to check the fitment first before I commit to making a run of them. If someone would like this one and in the position to fit now, just let me know.
