yes, Porsches do rust. I bought a 1973 Carrera 2.7 RST in 1979. It needed bodywork after only 6 years of use. I rebuilt it and enjoyed driving it for 17 years. I thought I had a good deal when I sold it, but if I still had it I could sell it for over £200k.

I rallied in a 2.0 litre 911 in 1968 - 9 and then in 1975 in a 2.8 Carrera RS. Both were exciting cars and was what prompted me to buy the 911 a few years later.

Do you work for Francis Tuthill by any chance?

It will be a pleasure to work with my son on a Mk.1 Escort, assuming he finds a good one. I did my first rally in a Mk.1 Escort in 1968. It was a Twin cam and I was navigating a for a guy named David Sutton. It was immediately clear what a competitive car the Escort was to become. Subsequently I had a lot to do with the Escort.
