I don't want to stir, but why are people telling the op to get a modern car?

How many owners on here have a standard unmodified engine in their mini? It sounds to me like the op is just asking the best way to get a bit more power, which is want many people want to do?

Steve.

I would recommend buying a 1275 and spend your money on rebuilding it to make its a nice reliable motor, even in standard spec. Once you have a good bottom end, any upgrades can be made at a later date. If you ever wish to put 850 lump back in then you'll get a fair amount back for the rebuilt 1275 lump.

That's what I'm leaning towards, just a nice standard 1275 engine.
