I now own this. Still have the mini though.

Just fancied an 80's saloon. I bought it because i didn't want another project but i have a feeling that might change. Got a full service history since 85, as well documentation for the modification when they phased out four-star. Anyone know any good Volvo specialist in the south east? I don't want the service history to end with my ownership.

Looks tidy. I went to view a 240 GLT estate last week because I've got a hankering for an old rwd tank. These are built to last. I drive a v50 daily and use an independent Volvo specialist have never had any issues - Charlwood Volvo I think.

Edit - they've changed their name to Charlwood Automotive because they specialise in binis too now.

It's not mint but it is very clean for an unrestored car of its age. Its had a few little repair jobs done over the years, such as where the sills meet the rear arches (which is common it seems from all the buyers guides), and the seat and carpet on the drivers side are well worn, but it has done 127,000 miles.

Everyone ive spoken to about it were a little confused as to why i was buying a Volvo, but i think this car has converted me to them. Admittedly I'm not keen on the newest shape cars, but if the build quality of them is anywhere near as close now as it was when this was built then i'd seriously consider one as a modern daily driver.

it was mainly the engine bay that caught my attention.

One of my colleagues had one of those new as his company car. Some wag made up a sticker for the rear window: "Looks like a tank, drives like a tank, my God, it IS a tank!"

The guy who chose it was not impressed.

This is the exact reason I bought it!

Volvos and Astras.... always a good route to go down for a reliable car.

Dad has always had Volvos and Astras and except for some electrical problems on nearly all the Volvos they have always been like tanks.

They also drink the fuel like a tank...

240's are a tank but built to last. Quite liked working on one when i overhauled an engine for a workmate.

Now that's crying out for some bandied steelies in the colour they are now, dropped a bit and a very hairy chested T5R engine in it.

makes me want mine back! I rescued it from a scrappy last year but when I found out it still had 4 months mot I sold it on for triple what I payed! Was in lovely condition with the exception of rust at the back of the sills and round rear arches (but nothing compared to most minis!) it even had height adjustable rear suspension and a caravan club tax disc holder!.

here is a pic:
