Hi to all Mini fans. My first car (and third car) were Minis a and now after a lifetime of all sorts of other cars I find myself with a Mini in the garage. It's not mine but a friend has entrusted me with its resurrection. It's a British Open edition and for the past few years it has been lying pretty much abandoned in a garage yard in the south of France. It's RHD and originally registered in England. We ran it through a jet wash today and immediately it seemed to come back to life. The climate here is very kind to cars when it comes to rust but the sunshine does get to the paint. Add to that the damage to plastic body parts... you get the idea. All those tools I've had unused for decades are about to find a new life.

Similar story here 4 speed. I said our new 83 Mayfair was going to be the last Mini I ever bought but now we have another plus a Moke and even one of those modern Cowley built things in France. Very few cars are as much fun to drive but it helps being handy with the spanners.

I hope that British Open is already French registered..

Hi Mini Mad (and anybody else reading). The car has been in France and on French plates since 2008. The owner, who isn't me, couldn't afford to repair it when it failed CT (French MOT) so it got left in the yard of a local garage for four years or so. Needless to say it's in a poor state. This is the first time I've worked on a mini since my 71 Clubman - not a lot seems to have changed. The first problem I have to overcome is the lack of locking wheel-nut key! I've yet to look underneath but there has certainly been some bodywork done - the filler is obvious.
