Back on the GT again today, where else would I want to be on my birthday but the best room in the house? Had a go at welding the boot strengthening brackets. R kid had to slightly re shape them so hopefully they're ok.

Had a mare trying to find the position for the tank strap bracket, till it dawned on us, well R kid worked it out. We thought the strap bolt went through the hole in the bottom of the tank flange but it doesn't. That was an hour wasted haha!

Here's a few pics

I was going to weld up the small holes where a piece of trim used to be, and a couple of pieces to fill the old aerial and alarm hole but ran out of time because of the tank bracket scenario

I'll do them tomorrow

Did you get any Mini parts as presents?

I really need to consider getting a cone compressor too. Especially if I want to regrease and refit components. (also, who is r kid? I think I missed it in your posts so far).

R kid is a Mancunian (resident of Manchester) phrase meaning brother or sister. So R Kid is my older brother. Thanks for looking

That's so cool. Thank you for sharing :) I didn't know that, or the term for a resident of Manchester. As they say, every day is a school day.

On the GT again today. We wanted to weld up the small holes where the old trim for the vinyl roof finished on the rear panel. Pleased how it turned out, used a piece of flattened copper tube to back the holes prior to welding

DTEHrZh.jpgqTfBX1t.jpgAXVkInU.jpg

I also made a couple of small patches where the old aerial and what looked like an old alarm key used to be

bMhtUKL.jpgXafivIn.jpg

Got them welded in, a bit rough but nowt a skim of filler won't sort. Then tried the boot lid for fit

oYX4gyc.jpg

Also tried the bumper but it was a mm or so high, will trim the hinges to suit I think, Thanks for looking

Back on the GT again, feckin snowing so we had to work inside the garage, a bit cramped but got a bit done

Got the old scuttle off and the new one trial fitted, pleased with the way it fits

Took an hour to get this bad boy off. Couldn't get a socket on one of the nuts. Lot's of swearing later Jimmy won

And I love this colour, at least you'll see us coming haha!
