I removed my Rover ECU and moved to Megasquirt some time ago; I really don't need it any more, so want to sell it on but don't know how to tell if it is coded to the immobiliser.

ECU  is from my (June) 1996 Rover Cooper SPI, MNE101170 (Single connector version)

Immobiliser works as normal with Megasquirt

I could get the numbers off the side of the 5AS, or follow the wiring if I know what to look for ?

How do I find out if it's paired; What checks can I do?

It's paired, the clue is in the part number MNE101X70 which means single plug, Cooper spec MEMS. If X is zero it is non paired and if X is 1 it is paired (as in your example).
