As already suggested, your suspension setup is unsafe. The top pin of the coilover clearly is too short and does not pass fully through the nut, and the bracket attaching coilover to ball joint is causing inadequate thread engagement on the balljoint.

In any case the bracket is too thin and fatigue fracture is likely. These look like competition parts, utterly unsuited to road use, where mileages are higher and the fatigue problem more severe. These are likely to result in MOT failure as there is clear and obvious danger..

What size of bolt is holding the top mount, and what are they screwed in to?

Tiger,

On what basis are those mounts not thick enough? Are these not the components fitted to every mini with coil overs?

Couldnt the ball joint issue be resolved by ditching the spring washer and fitting a nylock? If you can get about 1 dias worth of thread engagement with a nylock problem solved ?

Cheers liam!

A friend of mine has done thousands of miles on the exact same set up never had a problem. If I really thought it was that unsafe I wouldn't use them and I'm sure spax wouldn't sell them.

Stripped all the paint off the rear part of the cage today and gave it a coat of paint just all the door bars ect to do. Also put the steering column back in. I've bought a set of plastic door cards that came with rear ones as well was going to use double sided tape to hold the rears on?

Cage is all finished now and back in. Also got the rear cards on sticky tape didn't work so used a flexible mastic seems to work for now not sure how long they will stay on.
