Trying to fit what I was told was a drop-in replacement switch panel on my 83 mini Special. The rectangular holes are too tight to take the switches (a problem I unfortunately started to rectify with a file before noticing problem 2). Also, the round holes each end are larger than the retaining mounts and nuts that were behind the cable ends. So, I can't put the switches in, and I can't hold the whole thing in place securely without enormous washers behind each end hole. Is this thick plate just supposed to be a glue - on cover? If so, what can I do about the alloy trim around the original switch panel as it looks like crud behind the wood...?
