Hi

I love the look of these wheels.

Thinking of theses for my 1970 1275.

Any advice, recommendations or warnings ?

Looking at the mini sport ones for about £50 a corner

Thanks

Matt

as far as I'm aware they're all the same (ie jb wheels imported by midland wheels) so go to who ever sells them cheapest! I've got them on mine and they look great and seem ok quality. Never heard of any issues with cracking ect. The only problem they have is the laquer which is not good quality or thick enough and if not regularly protected will allow water ect to corode the metal under neath.

my cars had them for 5 years and done about 50k on them although it was my daily for the first few years and still gets used in all weathers the laquer has flaked off so they could do with a refurb.

The lacquer is shocking so much so that mine that have never seen the road look rubbish. I'd avoid if I were you and find some proper D1's and refurbish them as needed.

Thanks Mrpeanut - thats worrying !

Maybe  giving a new set out of the box  an additional coat of lacquer would overcome the problem as a refurbished original wheel would have lacquer taken off and reapplied.

Thanks for the reply

Matt

I had an original set on my Sprite which I refurbished myself. I did not put any lacquer on the bare alloy as I knew it would never stop the water from getting under it. I just polished the alloy every six months using metal polish followed by a coat of wax.
